MONSTER MIX / Pen + Ink, Colored Pencil / 1980-86

This is a nice mix of 8 pieces, and, some of my favorites. Some have seen print. They're all like one-shots and can't really be paired with anything, so, hence, THE MIX!

Monster Movie Posters / Ink + Colored Pencil / 1965

As a junior in high school, I drew a lot of great movie monsters. The reason?.. FAMOUS MONSTERS of FILMLAND!! Here are the only 2 posters I depicted.

Wolvertonesque Aliens / Pen + Ink / 1979

These are the very first drawings I made after I decided to get into comics. My natural tendency is to do heavy shading like Basil!

I was obviously looking at vintage sci-fi pulp covers.

I always thought the creatures in FIEND WITHOUT A FACE were really cool!

17 Hermanos Guzanos Cassette Covers / Pen + Ink / 1986-90

These are 17 Hermanos Guzanos cassette covers done by Brian Riedel and me, also, D. Draeger worked on THE REJECTS and SURFIN' ON THE MOON.

Timmie & Kiwi / SNAKE BAIT / 2002

SNAKE BAIT was a short movie our company made. Some of the stills had a 'mirror' effect put on them.

Gary Wray aka William Rossiter aka Timmie.

Darrell Draeger aka Lee Kitsch aka Kiwi.

The Devil Robots / Vortex Comics #12 - 1986 / Cover & Story

1986 was a good year for me, and, to top it off, I got to do the cover and two stories for Vortex Comics #12! Hey, and, Brian Riedel also has a story in that issue!

Here's the color cover I did for my story THE DEVIL ROBOTS. I submitted the cover later, after they had already accepted the interior story. That ended up being a pretty good idea!

When it comes to comics, guys like me and Brian do everything ourselves... writing, layout, pencil, ink, lettering, coloring, etc., unlike those softies at Marvel and DC!!

Next are some choice panels from the 8 page story, the Vortex interior was printed in b+w. These pages are fairly unique in that I inked outlines and shaded everything in with black colored pencil, plus I used some Zipatone in places. I pasted in the word balloons later. I actually started this project in 1980.

I love these little worker-ant robots! And, they drool fluid!

On Other Worlds II / Variations On A Theme / Oils 2005-6

These are six more oil paintings I did that are a variation on a few classic sci-fi elements I like to use. Again, I think they have a real 1940s-'50s pulp feel to them!

Bugz, Flyze & Spydurz - Colored Pencil / 1994

Here are 7 drawings that had 3 minute time limits for completion. They're of our creepy little fiends, BUGZ, FLYZE & SPYDURZ!!

Martian Robot Sculptures / 2001-02

These Martian Robot Sculptures were created by attaching plastic model parts to the basic wood structure. They were then finished in metallic colors and are about 10" tall.

Monster Women / 1996-2004

Time for some girls!.. The first four pics show pieces done with colored pencil on black illo board. The last four were done with the computer. Pic 1 shows six designs I made into buttons.

Pen + Ink Collaborations w/ Tompkins & Worden / 1987-8

Here are six pen + ink pieces I collaborated on with pals Roy Tompkins and Dennis Worden. The first five are with Tompkins, he pencilled, sent'em to me from Texas and I inked and kept them. He inked and kept the pencils I sent him. They were based on dumb-ass phrases we separately came up with and we pencilled our own phrases.

3 Published Pen + Ink Panels / 1987

These panels I consider some of my best pen + ink work, very Wolvertonish! I was inspired by some of J. R. Williams' cool art when I did these.

EMAIL Tag-Team Art Collaborations / 1996-7

Here are 10 pieces that use photos of sculpture heads again. This time, Darrell Draeger would start the piece by doing something dramatic with it and send it back to me. I'd work on it, send it back to him, it'd go back and forth until it was done. We started doing tag-team art back in the '60s in German class in high school!

THIRD STRING MONSTERS!

ALIENS IN BLACK!

On Other Worlds / Variations on a Theme / Oils 2005-6

Here are seven oil paintings I did that are a variation on a few sci-fi elements I like. They are a little looser in detail than a lot of my work. I think they have an early '50s pulp feel!

Monster Guys / Thumbnail Studies - 1983

These are mugs of some monster guys you'd want to avoid. They are colored pencil on black illo board, original images were approx. 1" in height, so, small. They were studies to use as models for larger pieces. I like them because thay have a lot of character!
